Daulatabad (190 57’ N; 750 15’ E) is located at a distance of 2 km from Shelke mama Dhaba and 15 km northwest of Aurangabad, the district headquarters and midway to Ellora group of caves. Daulatabad or ‘the abode of wealth’ was the name given by Muhammad-bin-Tughluq when he made his capital here in A.D. 1327. The ancient name being ‘Devagiri’ or ‘Deogiri’ meaning ‘Hill of Gods’ under the Yadavas of Deogiri. The Yadavas were initially ruling under the Chalukyas of Kalyani over region of modern Dhulia and Nasik districts with their capital at Chandradityapura (modern Chandor, Nasik district).

After completion of the cemetery, complete steps are taken from the end of the cement. After climbing these stairs, we enter our fort from the north entrance door, which is carved in the wall.The command of the entrance is destroyed. On the left side of the entrance are the remains of the walls. After entering the entrance to the fort, the Chinchola Gatematha is seen from East-West.
